I-ARC Training
The Initial-ARCer Resilience Course (I-ARC) was created to assist
educators/coaches/therapists working with adolescents and young adults to learn resilience and provide an 'Emotional Edge'. The creation of the I-ARC has taken over three years of development based upon research and feedback from program participants. The course employs a strength-based approach to identify, learn and develop internal resilience assets. The course assists participants in the creation of self-reference tools that can be applied towards setting and reaching goals and obtaining higher levels of well-being. These tools can also be useful for self-reflection and gaining life trajectory perspective. The I-ARC training can be useful for those that are working in education and mental health services, but wider applications can be beneficial as well. The I-ARC can be used to assist with making major life-decisions at any age upon reaching adulthood. Employers can also offer the course as a benefit to its employees. The course starts with helping the participant(s) understand the past and present before expanding into future planning. The duration of the course is usually between 6-10 hours depending upon the length and depth of discussions. Each lesson within the course is accompanied by a worksheet or multiple worksheets and time for discussion and check for learning. After the course is completed, some information from the course can be gathered from the worksheets and used for aggregated analysis and course improvement. The course worksheets can be updated by the participant to show growth in areas, reflect changes in goals, and for the participant to conduct ongoing self-reflection and analysis. |
I-ARC Training Endorsements
The thoroughness of the I-ARC curriculum is both innovative and creative. It starts with looking back at events and relationships that significantly impacted who we are today. Additionally, the 3As Process—Awareness, Acceptance, and Action—is easy to remember. The Invisible Backpack metaphor is an effective way of increasing awareness of the emotional baggage that we all carry. The curriculum also encourages participants to plan for their desired future.
