ARCer Experiences
Below are a few firsthand examples of how ARCS-SPAN has begun impacting the lives of the participants.
ShakiraMy name is Shakira and I am part of the ARCS-SPAN Organization. ARCS-SPAN is a non-profit organization that helps kids like me learn resilience. They also provide us with resources that we may not have access to or cannot get on our own.
I would not be where I am now if I did not get the help I needed. Five months ago, I was homeless and couch hopping. I did not have any forms of ID, no state ID, birth certificate, or social security card due to the situation I was in. |
ARCS-SPAN helped me find a place to stay where I could mentally heal and get all the help I needed to get back on my feet. I was able to get all my identities, apply for college, and get a job. Not only was I able to work with ARCS-SPAN to create a plan that would help me succeed but I was able to get free prescription glasses because of them. After high school, most kids don’t know what to do because they no longer have the guidance they had when they were attending school.
As a result, they give up on themselves either quitting college or not going at all or even getting themselves into trouble with the law. Once we receive our diploma, we are told that we are adults and that we must find our way on our own.
Being part of ARCS-SPAN is a way to help us after high school keep up with our plans and goals. They will work with us on how to become resilient, responsible, and more independent. With the help of ARCS-SPAN I became all those things, and I can now say I am ready for the real world.”

AntonioMy name is Antonio and I am part of the ARCS-SPAN. ARCS-SPAN is a non-profit organization that helps people like me learn resilience. Before I joined ARCS-SPAN I was going wherever the universe sent me without any understanding.
At my first meeting with ARCS-SPAN in September 2020, I thought it was going to be tough seeking help as a young adult at the age of 24. I felt like that wasn’t a normal thing to do at my age.

Learning these lessons has helped me take a big step in my life and it has opened many doors for me that I never thought existed. Within five months, I gained the courage to pursue full custody of my daughter, while starting and maintaining my clothing business, and going through life with the confidence that I will succeed.”
Cody
My name is Cody and ARC-SPAN has been helping me become an accomplished person. My mentor has helped me better myself in many ways. Currently, we’re working on a plan to start college. ARC-SPAN has helped me with the enrollment as well obtaining financial aid. ARCS-SPAN has also helped me on a personal level, teaching me about emotional management and ways to improve my physical health as I deal with past trauma.”
Marcos
Hello my name is Marcos- I just want to give insight into how much ARCS-SPAN has benefited me. I had a lot of anger built up inside and felt I did not have an outlet to speak about it or to open up. I would just hold everything inside until I finally exploded. In the past year, I lost a best friend to a car accident, my long-term relationship with my girlfriend ended, and to make matters worst my car engine blew. I felt like I was getting hit from left and right, and I was ready to give up. Then I got insight and from the help at ARCS-SPAN, and they gave me a way to talk about it, encouraged me to keep fighting, and helped me understand this is just one bad chapter in my book of life, nothing more and nothing less. ARCS-SPAN is helping me reach goals that I didn’t think I could reach. I thank ARCS-SPAN greatly for the help and assistance I needed when I felt I had no where else to turn.”
